The word Bukkake, being a noun form of the verb Bukkakeru, which means to sprinkle or dash water, has a non-sexual use in Japanese. In this context, Kekeru means to pour or shower. In Japanese, it is often used to describe pouring out some liquid with enough momentum to cause spilling or splashing. Indeed, the word is used to describe a type of food where hot broth gets poured over noodles.
The History of Bukkake
It’s believed that Bukkake originated from a form of punishment for women who committed adultery in medieval Japan. However, others believe this description of its origin is false because cheating wives were decapitated in medieval Japan.
Bukkake was first shown in the 1980s in pornographic films in Japan. One key factor that significantly developed it as a form of pornography was Japan’s mandatory requirement that genitals be pixelated by a mosaic. In the late 1990s, Bukkake spread from Japan to Europe and the US. Bukkake videos led to harder pornography videos in the 1990s. Bukkake videos were preceded by double penetration videos in the mid-1990s and gang bang videos at the end of the decade. Western pornographers enjoyed an economic advantage in producing Bukkake films since all they needed was one actress. The male performers were often armatures whose pay rates were low.
However, Western Bukkake videos are different from those in Japan in some aspects. In Japanese videos, female performers mostly dress in school uniforms or as office ladies and are humiliated. On the other hand, female actresses in Western Bukkake videos seem to enjoy the scene.
Gokkun
Gokkun is another Japanese variation of Bukake where male actors ejaculate into a container and the receiver drinks it. Compared to other pornography niches in the West, Bukkake is less popular because of two reasons. First, cum shots are usually the climax of a scene and not the main event. Second, woman’s insubordination is not appealing to many consumers.

Several authors describe Bukkake as based on humiliation. Some forensic psychologists describe it as a symbolic group rate. They characterize its primary purpose as degradation, objectification, and humiliation of women. Others view the ejaculation part as a humiliation ritual. They note that Bukkake films do not show any part where the female actors experience orgasm. Feminists describe the scene where multiple men ejaculate on the body or face of a woman as very degrading. Other authors have described Bukkake as a gay circle jerk because it features naked men nearby masturbating together. The lively and party-like American version of Bukkake has been described as an advancement in human behavior.
