It is possible with the recent updates for operating systems that you encounter problems with wireless adapter or access point. If you encounter a problem of going online on your Wi-Fi network, you need to check the Wi-Fi switch is on. You can do this by clicking on Settings-Network and Internet- Wi-Fi. If you discover it is not on, then switch it on and see the available networks. If the network is on and available, then click on it and connect.

There is a possibility that you will still be unable to connect to the network, and if this is the case, first make sure that the airplane mode is off. Try to move as close as you can to the access point. The modem could be restarted by unplugging the power cable and wait for at least a minute then plug it back in.

Usually, when the modem comes on, it will light up and blink. Wait until it stops blinking before you plug the router back. The other check you can make is checking other devices apart from your PC if they have connected to the wireless network.

Troubleshooting the Computer

Try Rolling Back the Network Adapter Driver

If the problem occurred after you downloaded a new network adapter driver, try going back to the previous version. You can do this by typing Device Manager in the search box taskbar, then select the appropriate device manager. You will see the option for expanding network adapters after which you need to search for the one for your device. Select the Network Adapter Properties, where you select the driver tab the rollback driver. Once you are done, you need to restart the computer and this should fix the problem.

Additional Troubleshooting Steps

Firewalls can sometimes cause problems with the wireless adapter. You can try turning off the firewall. It is also possible the antivirus or malware protection program is causing issues and you can turn them off temporarily. Reset the network as well and check if the device can now detect the wireless adapter.
